Summary

Working on a new installation in the Salisbury Square area of London. You will be installing the infrastructure pipework and setting up energy efficient plant rooms for this new exciting project.

Wage

£15,311.40 to £24,761.88, depending on your age

CoTrain will cover all travel costs to and from College and if you live more than 45 mins from Croydon then accommodation will be booked and paid for during these block weeks. A £25 travel allowance per week is also available for daily site travel.

Site hours will be typically 07:30 to 16:30, Monday to Friday. College will be 09:00 to 16:00 during block weeks. Weekend work will only be offered if eligible and confirmed in advance with the apprentice.

Work

What you'll do at work

  • Comply with appropriate health and safety, risk and quality requirements 
  • Correctly select and safely use tools and equipment for the fabrication, assembly, installation and decommissioning of pipework components and systems 
  • Plan, organise and undertake the fabrication, assembly, installation, maintenance and decommissioning of pipework components and systems 
  • Read, interpret and apply engineering drawing information 
  • Shape pipework components using hand and power tools to cut, drill, and shape

  • Comply with building services engineering industry regulations, standards, and guidance.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations, standards, and practices.
  • Identify and report hazards and risks in the workplace. Take action to mitigate hazards and risks.
  • Comply with safe systems of work and apply control measures.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Follow environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. Segregate resources for reuse, recycling, and disposal.
  • Move, lift, and handle materials.
  • Select and use personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Use and store hand tools, power tools and equipment.
  • Prepare work area and complete set out requirements.
  • Maintain a safe working area.
  • Select materials, components, and fittings required to complete the work tasks.
  • Plan order of works and carry out pre-work checks.
  • Carry out pre commissioning activities for building service engineering installations.
  • Fabricate system pipework including pipe bending.
  • Test fabricated pipework system.
  • Install pipework system, including pipework, bracketry and components of pipework systems, not including the energy source.
  • Use pipework jointing techniques.
  • Test installed pipework.
  • Apply decommissioning practices, for example draining pipework system.
  • Complete system handover activities.
  • Complete a final quality inspection.
  • Communicate with others verbally including internal and external customers, colleagues using sector specific terminology.
  • Communicate with others in a written context including internal and external customers, colleagues using sector specific terminology.
  • Interpret drawings from drawings, specifications, and system schematics.
  • Record or enter information - paper based or electronic. For example, energy usage, job sheets, risk assessments, equipment service records, test results, handover documents and manufacturers' documentation, work sheets, checklists, waste environmental records and any legal reporting requirements.
  • Use information technology and digital systems. Comply with GDPR and cyber security regulations and polices.
  • Follow equity, diversity, and inclusion policies.
  • Work within limits of authority and escalate issues.
  • Collaborate with others including customers, colleagues, internal and external stakeholders and other trades.
  • Apply team working and wellbeing principles.

Training schedule

  • The apprentice will spend 80% of their time on site installing all associated pipework and control mechanisms as per site drawings and instructions
  • 20% of the time will be at Croydon College on a block relase timetable studying theory and practical aspects of the apprenticeship

GCSE in:
