Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
An average week will be fast-paced, varied, and rewarding as you help
ensure An average week will give you hands-on experience in HR and
payroll administration, supporting a busy team managing 200+ staff:
● Assisting with weekly payroll processing, ensuring timesheets
are accurate and payments are on time.
● Supporting HR administration including maintaining staff
records, contracts, and compliance documents.
● Responding to employee payroll and HR queries in a
professional and timely manner.
● Learning to use payroll and HR software systems, with full
training and mentoring provided.
● Gaining insight into employment law, compliance, and best
practices in HR and payroll management.

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Record transactional data.
- Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
- Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
- Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
- Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
- Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
- Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Apprentice Training Scheme
The apprentice will complete a structured training programme
combining on-the-job learning at The Waiting Game’s Bristol office
(191 Redland Road, Redland, BS6 6XP) with dedicated apprenticeship
training provided by the partner college/training provider.
Training will take place:
● At work: Practical, hands-on learning alongside experienced
HR and Payroll professionals, gaining direct exposure to
weekly payroll processes and HR administration.
● With the training provider: One day per week (or equivalent)
to complete coursework, skills development, and
assessments.
This blended approach ensures the apprentice builds both the
technical skills to process payroll and manage HR records, and the
formal knowledge required to achieve their qualification.
