What you'll do at work
As an Accounts Assistant Apprentice, you’ll gain hands-on experience in a busy accounts department dealing with suppliers across the globe, working with platforms such as Shopify (eCommerce), Acumatica (ERP), and Canary7 (Warehouse Management System). You will also assist with month end procedures and reporting. Alongside this, you’ll provide essential support to ensure smooth day-to-day operations with the department and business.
Key Responsibilities
- Posting daily bank transactions and daily bank reconciliations of GBP, currency and cash in transit accounts
- Daily Sales reports
- Processing supplier invoices against purchase orders, identify and querying any discrepancies
- Supplier statement reconciliations
- Posting month end journals as required
- Ensuring customer invoices have been raised automatically/manually raising adhoc customer invoices
- Credit control
- Assisting with month end processes
- Use Excel techniques such as filters, pivot tables, formulas, and charts to analyse and present data
- Ad-hoc duties within finance and other areas of the business

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
- Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
- Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
- Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
- Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
- Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
- Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
- Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
- Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule
The successful candidate will work towards a level 3 Accounts Assistant apprenticeship. You will attend college 1 day per week, and be in the workplace 4 days a week. You will also be visited by a college tutor in the workplace once a month, working towards an end point assessment.
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade 4 or C and above)
- Maths (grade 4 or C and above)
Desirable qualifications
BTEC in:
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements
It would be advantageous to have a small knowledge of business studies before beginning level 3 accounts. Please be aware that there is not public transport to this location, it is a considerable walk away from the nearest bus stop. Please plan your travel before applying to make sure you are happy with the route.
