Summary
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice Service Engineer to join our team and work towards completing the Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship. This apprenticeship provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the fire and security industry while learning from experienced engineers.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Throughout your apprenticeship, you will be supported to:
- Assist in carrying out routine maintenance and planned servicing in line with customer contracts and relevant standards
- Learn how to diagnose and repair faults across a variety of fire, emergency, and security systems
- Support senior engineers on-site and gradually take on more responsibility as your skills develop
- Ensure on-site documentation and logbooks are accurately completed following any work undertaken
- Gain an understanding of compliance requirements (BS 5839, BS 5266, etc.) and how to report any non-conformances
- Learn to use digital systems (PDA) to record job details, parts used, and customer updates
- Maintain a professional approach when representing the company on customer sites
During your apprenticeship, you will develop skills and knowledge in:
- Fire detection and alarm systems · Intruder alarm systems · CCTV systems
- Access control and door entry systems
- Health, safety, and environmental practices
- Electrical and electronic principles
- Fault diagnosis and problem solving
You will be supported by a dedicated mentor and engineering team who will help guide your progress and ensure you gain the full range of competencies required.

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Comply with safety legislation, codes of practice, risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work and apply control measures.
- Complete functionality tests of systems and components during commissioning systems.
- Apply and implement system design, planning and installations including additional components to existing systems.
- Carry out takeover procedure, diagnose and repair faults.
- Operate ICT equipment and systems to store, retrieve, manipulate, transmit or receive digital data and electronic information.
- Comply with environmental and sustainability, regulations and standards.
- Complete functionality tests of systems and components during handover of systems.
- Carries out risk assessments.
- Communicate with others verbally for example, internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers using sector specific terminology.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, as part of a team. Consult and engage with occupants or others who are or could be affected by work (for example vulnerable, older, and disabled people) and respond appropriately.
- Communicate with internal and external stakeholders using sector specific terminology through written means.
- Plan and install systems cabling.
- Carry out maintenance activities on fire detection and alarm systems and their components.

Training schedule
As part of the Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship, you will receive both on-the-job training and off-the-job learning delivered by Access Training
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade 4)
- Maths (grade 4)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements
You will need a full drivers licence for this position as you will have a work van to travel to jobs around the north east travelling across Teesside and Newcastle.
