Summary

We are looking for a hardworking and enthusiastic person to join our Accountancy practice. The ideal candidate will have an interest in accounting and will work towards completing a level 3 qualification.

Wage

£11,778 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Main Duties/responsibilities will include:

  • To assist in the provision of a Finance Service whilst developing the skills needed to achieve the Level 3 AAT qualification
  • The role will cover a wide variety of tasks such as income, supplier payments and accounting

Finance duties can include:

  • Processing and coding expenditure payments, including invoices and petty cash
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Processing journals
  • Processing and coding income transactions
  • Attend college/training provider as and when required and meet the demands of qualification requirements, working with the training provider to ensure qualification is obtained within set timescales
  • Meet deadlines of college/training provider
  • Efficient use of IT back-office systems, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word (training will be provided where appropriate)
  • To maintain a confidential (manual and electronic) filing system to ensure that accurate, up-to-date information is available
  • To prepare and dispatch standardised letters and e-mails as directed to the required standards and timescales
  • To undertake filing, photocopying, collation of information and general clerical work
  • To undertake standard word-processing, presentation work, spreadsheet work and database input as required
  • Liaise with the line manager for additional duties as required
  • To support the administrative processes carried out in the office
  • To respect the confidential nature of the work and protect personal information in accordance with data protection regulations and policies in place

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

  • Working 5 days per week, inclusive of 1 day per week for study at Darlington College

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

Maths and English (grade 5)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

GCSE maths and English grade 5 or willingness to successfully achieve by apprenticeship completion is essential. Previous experience in accounting or AAT Level 2 is required. Please note that in line with UK apprenticeship regulations, you must have a valid and eligible residency status and the right to work in England. This should cover the entire expected term of learning and residency should be held for a minimum of 3 years. Exceptions may apply. Please see apprenticeship funding rules for full guidance.
