Summary
As an Apprentice Teaching Assistant, you’ll support teachers in preparing lessons, creating a safe, enjoyable learning environment, and helping pupils progress. Working alongside staff and governors, you’ll encourage positive behaviour, act as a role model, and promote the school’s ethos while contributing to an enriched, exciting curriculum.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Duties will include;
- Providing support to teachers in preparing for lessons and helping to create a safe and enjoyable learning environment.
- You will work together with the class teacher to support pupils with classroom activities and help to manage behaviour.
- You will support all areas of the curriculum including literacy, numeracy and ICT within the classroom.
- You’ll also accompany teaching staff and pupils on trips and other out-of-school activities.
- Other duties that may arise that fit with your role or add to your learning.

Training schedule
Apprentices will attend 6-weekly on-campus activity days at the University of Derby - Buxton, transport is available from Leek. Addtionally, Apprentices will be assigned an Instructor-Mentor who will regularly visit them in the workplace, complete observations, professional discussions and discuss progress throughout.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade 5 or above)
- Maths (grade 5 or above)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
