Summary
As an engineering apprentice, you will combine your college studies with real-life work alongside experienced engineers, learning from their expertise while contributing to critical maintenance and repair tasks across our network. Based at one of our Train Care Depots, we will provide the foundation upon which you can build a great railway career.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
You will assist with routine maintenance activities including:
- Inspections, repairs, and component replacements.
- Diagnose faults and perform troubleshooting to identify and rectify issues efficiently.
- Support the installation and testing of new equipment and systems.
- Follow safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve operational objectives.
- Deliver high-quality service to our customers.

Training schedule
Your first year will be based at college in Southampton full-time. This will be followed by 3 years based at the depot with weekly college study.
You will also undertake a Level 3 BTEC in Engineering alongside your apprenticeship in the first 2 years.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:

- Maths (grade 5)
- Science (grade 4)
