Summary

Your role will focus on clients' bookkeeping (posting of transactions, bank reconciliations and ledger reconciliations using Xero), providing support to clients on finance matters, learning and teamwork.

Wage

£13,741 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Starting your day by checking in with the team to review client priorities
  • Processing invoices, matching payments, and reconciling bank statements in Xero
  • Helping to keep client accounts accurate and up to date 
  • Assisting with client reports, following up on outstanding invoices, and ensuring all financial records are organised
  • Supporting colleagues with various client bookkeeping tasks
  • Spending time learning and developing your skills: studying for AAT modules, reviewing your work with a mentor/or exploring new features in Xero
  • Wrap up by updating client files, checking your task list, and preparing for tomorrow
  • You'll finish the day knowing you've contributed to real client accounts and grown your accounting skills

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training schedule

You'll attend monthly online 1-2-1 meetings (online via Teams every month. NO classroom OR college!) with your tutor to learn modules including general business, understanding your organisation, accounting systems & processes, basic accounting & ethical standards. You will be given a minimum of 3 hours per week to complete any apprenticeship work (assignments, research, and projects) and will receive at least another 3 hours of training from your employer.
