Summary

Shoreside Primary School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated Apprentice Teaching Assistant to join our welcoming team. We are looking for someone passionate about helping us provide a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for our children. As an apprentice, your key responsibilities will be to assist the class teacher.

Wage

£11,778 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Assisting the class teacher in delivering a varied and engaging curriculum.
  • Building positive relationships with children to support their development.
  • Working with small groups or individual children under the guidance of the teacher to help them with specific tasks or activities.
  • Supporting the implementation of learning interventions, such as phonics or numeracy programmes.
  • Helping with general classroom duties, such as preparing resources and tidying up.
  • Assisting with administrative tasks, like taking the register or photocopying.
  • Supporting the supervision of children during play and lunchtimes.

  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

After this apprenticeship

Completing a Teaching Assistant apprenticeship provides you with the skills and experience to support pupils in the classroom and help teachers deliver high-quality learning. After this apprenticeship, you could progress into roles such as:

  • Experienced Teaching Assistant / Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – taking on more responsibility, such as leading small group work or covering classes.
  • Special Educational Needs (SEN) Support – specialising in supporting pupils with additional needs.
  • Learning Mentor or Pastoral Support Roles – providing guidance and support for pupils’ wellbeing and behaviour.
  • Teacher Training – with further study and qualifications, you could progress into becoming a fully qualified teacher.

This apprenticeship gives you a strong foundation to build a long-term career in education, with plenty of opportunities for further development.
