Lishman Plumbing and Heating Contractors in Northampton are looking for an apprentice who is keen to pursue a path in pluming and heating, to work alongside a qualified plumbers, on the companies new build housing sites.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Lishman Plumbing and Heating Contractors are based in Northampton, they are looking for an apprentice to join their team.
In this role you will be working on a new build housing site, assisting qualified plumbers with 1st fixing of heating, soil and domestic pipework.
This would involve drilling, cutting and chasing in preparation for pipework installs.
You will also be required to help with 2nd fixing of sanitary ware, cylinders, radiators and air source heat pumps.
You would also take delivery of materials to site, checking off delivered quantities and organising in their site container.
You would be required to carry out basic plumbing tasks along with organising stock and assisting other members of the team.
Your own transport would be a big advantage, as you would be working remotely on different sites around Bedfordshire / Northamptonshire
Work locations are dependant on what contracts the employer has, at the moment they have work in St Neots and Bedford for another 12 months.
The employer generally expects their plumbers to travel up to an hour maximum to site, but they try and keep them local were they can.
Salary will depend on your experience and will be discussed with you during an employer interview.
College attendance will be Tresham College in Corby starting 21st October 2025.

- Perform routine service, maintenance, fault diagnosis and rectification procedures and techniques on the non-electrical components of plumbing and domestic heating systems.
- Perform routine service, maintenance, fault diagnosis and rectification procedures and techniques on electrical and electrical control systems applicable to plumbing and domestic heating systems including industry safe isolation procedures.
- Decommission plumbing and domestic heating systems.

- Plan, size and select cold and hot systems to meet customer’s needs in accordance with manufacturers guidance, regulatory requirements and industry recognised standards and procedures.

- Carry out and apply the common installation processes and techniques used in the installation and maintenance of natural gas systems (up to 35mm R1¼) and natural gas fired hot water and central heating appliances (up to 70kW net heat input) in the workplace.

Training schedule
You will gain the following qualifications:
- Level 3 Plumbing & Domestic Heating Apprenticeship
- Level 2 Functional Skills in English and maths (if required)
You will also study a range of topics, including:
Health and safety, core plumbing systems, electrical components and control systems, plumbing science and processes, principles of environmental technology systems, principles of fossil fuels, customer service and communication.

Desirable qualifications
GCSE or equivalent in:
- English (grade 4)
- maths (grade 4)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements
The candidate would ideally have there own transport or be able to commute to central Bedford each morning to be picked up. However your own transport would be a big advantage, as you would be working remotely on different sites around Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire.
