Summary

Northcott School is looking for two dedicated Teaching Assistant Apprentices to join their Lower School team, supporting pupils from early years through to age 11. This role provides the chance to gain hands-on experience while learning from skilled staff, supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs.

Wage

£11,778 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Supporting and supervising pupils with special educational needs.
  • Helping pupils stay safe and engaged in learning activities.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and supporting children to take responsibility.
  • Assisting teachers with lessons, adapting activities and resources for pupils.
  • Helping with classroom displays and setting up creative activities.
  • Supporting children with reading, writing, and numeracy.
  • Encouraging safe play and interaction during break and lunchtime.
  • Supporting children with autism and speech/communication needs to play, interact, and learn together.

  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.
  • Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.

Training schedule

Level 3 Apprenticeship in Teaching Assistant consisting of:

  • Level 3 Apprenticeship in Teaching Assistant.
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in English (if applicable).
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths (if applicable).

You will be required to attend a half-day session with HBTC where you will work towards any functional skills (where needed) that you have to take. There will also be an end point assessment.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
