As a Software Development Apprentice, you will be part of a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment where your work can make a meaningful impact. You will support the in-house tech team, which plays a key role in driving digital transformation, improving internal systems, and enhancing the customer experience across multiple platforms.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  •  Assisting in all stages of development, from planning and design to deployment and maintenance of software applications.

  • Developing and maintaining software using C#, ASP Classic/ASP.NET, and Proclaim SQL/Maths, following technical specifications.

  • Creating, modifying, and managing SQL databases, and writing connection code for integration with internal systems.

  • Performing unit, functional, and end-to-end testing to identify and resolve syntax errors, logical bugs, and system-level issues.

  • Collaborating with the team using version control systems like Git to manage and track code changes.

  • Supporting daily maintenance and updates of existing software systems to ensure consistent functionality.

  • Participating in team huddles, scrums, and communicating with colleagues and stakeholders via meetings and emails.

  • Contributing to full stack development across front-end and back-end components of internal software projects.

  • Integrating web servers and internal systems using APIs and external data connections.

  • Referring to and helping create technical documentation, diagrams, and workflow charts to support development tasks.

Training schedule

As a Software Developer apprentice, your role will consist of creating and testing high-quality code. You will use programming languages and software development tools such as Java, Python, and C++.

You will be responsible for interpreting customer requirements from a design specification, planning and managing their contribution to the wider project, and creating effective software solutions.

Due to the nature of the role, you could be employed within a wide range of businesses and sectors – from SME games studios to finance multinationals. All corporations depend on software in some way to function!

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
