We have an exciting new opportunity available with KwikTuf who are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join their team as an engineering machine operator and fitting apprentice. Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Working alongside the glass cutting team you will develop an understanding and knowledge of glass variations in terms of coatings, patterns and applications.
Working to a high degree of accuracy and quality, you will learn how to handle glass safely and cut glass of various types, shapes and thicknesses, using automated CNC Optimisation Equipment, as well as manual techniques.
This includes the creation of technical drawings, using the ICam system. Training will also eventually extend to the use of mechanical handling equipment such as the Overhead Crane, Vacuum Lifting Equipment and Fork Lift Truck.
The successful applicant will:
- Be methodical with a high attention to detail
- Be able to work as part of a small team as well as on their own initiative
- Have excellent communication skills, good IT skills and preferably an interest in science and engineering
- Have good core GCSEs are essential
- Have enthusiasm for and interest in engineering

- Have the ability to work with others and enjoy team working
- Be pro-active and positive attitude applied to all tasks - large and small

- Undertake installation, testing, servicing, removal, replacement, maintenance and repair of a range of equipment.
- Undertake planned, preventative and reactive maintenance of machines and equipment
- Ensure your work is completed safely, meets quality standards, time and budget requirements, whilst maintaining the efficient running of the factory and equipment

What you'll learn

- Reading, interpreting and understanding the component or assembly specification, diagrams, drawings and work instructions.
- Planning component or assembly task – materials, tools and equipment.
- Preparing work area for component or assembly task; sourcing required resources, tools and equipment.
- Carry out relevant planning and preparation activities before commencing work activity and know how to source required resources and interpret detailed drawings, specifications and job instructions.
- Checking tools during and after task completion; identifying and reporting defects.
- Measuring and testing, checking or inspecting component or assembly for example; use of micrometers, verniers, multimeters, voltmeter.
- Problem solving; analysing the issue and fixing the issue where appropriate.
- Applying improvement techniques; recommending or implementing solutions where appropriate.
- Communicating with colleagues or customers (internal or external).
- Completing component or assembly documentation for example job instructions, drawings, quality control documentation.
- Reporting work outcomes or issues.
- Restoring the work area on completion of the activity; returning any resources and consumables to the appropriate location and house-keeping.

Training schedule
Engineering Fitter Apprenticeship Standard Level 3:
7-hour training day a week within Hull Training will take place at Hull Training's Engineering Centre on a day release basis. Address: Hull TEC, Danepark Road, Hull, HU6 9DX
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade 4 or C)
- Maths (grade 4 or C)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
