Summary

Wilsons Epsom is a well-established, large, multi-franchise, main dealer in the Surrey area, who are looking for a dedicated motor vehicle apprentice technician to work towards a Level 3 Motor Vehicle and Maintenance Technician Standard. You will be involved with general servicing and repairs.

Wage

£14,918.80 to £24,126.96, depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

As an apprentice, you will be working alongside a team of experienced technicians, where you will learn to maintain and repair customer's vehicles to an extremely high standard. You will be working on the latest modern vehicle products and technologies. This will include the latest vehicle operating electronic systems, including alternative fuelled vehicle systems such as EV (full electric vehicles), hybrid vehicles and, where applicable, hydrogen-powered vehicles.

Your duties will include: 

  • General servicing and repairs. This will require the candidate to work to manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure the vehicle is operating to its optimum required performance
  • The candidate will be expected to, under guidance and mentoring, learn processes and procedures as required in respect of vehicle technical repairs. This will also include manufacturer’s warranty processes and procedures
  • The candidate will be guided through more complex diagnostic and repair procedures involving electronic vehicle operating systems. Examples of these are ABS systems, electric engine management operating systems, electronic operating gearbox systems, electronic operating steering systems, ADAS operating systems, infotainment systems

**Please note you will be required to drive these vehicles. Therefore, a full UK driving licence is required.

  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop. Segregate waste for disposal or recycling. Comply with industry environmental legislation.
  • Demonstrate due regard for own safety and that of others in the workshop and minimise risk of injury and vehicle damage.
  • Carry out fundamental tasks associated with removal and replacement procedures on a vehicle.
  • Obtain diagnostic and repair information.
  • Interpret diagnostic information and use electrical wiring diagrams to determine system serviceability.
  • Use a range of diagnostic equipment.
  • Follow recognised diagnostic procedures, logical diagnostic sequence and apply advanced diagnostic principles and problem-solving techniques to establish faults.
  • Report faults using company procedures and recommend suitable further actions.
  • Follow recognised repair procedures to complete a wide range of repairs including those which involve complex procedures, or in depth knowledge.
  • Test the function of repaired and fitted components.
  • Adhere to business processes and complete documentation following workplace procedures.
  • Use ICT to create emails, word-process documents and carry out web based searches.
  • Complete a range of services and inspect and prepare a vehicle to the required quality standard for handover to the customer.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4/C)
  • Maths (grade 4/C)

Other in:

Full UK Driving License (grade Pass)

After this apprenticeship

  • Upon successful timely completion of the apprenticeship, the candidate will have achieved a Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Standard.
  • A candidate’s progression route, after successfully completing a level 3 apprenticeship, will allow them to move forward with a view to progressing into specific manufacturer’s product training at levels 1, 2 and 3, moving on to diagnostic technician. This may lead to master technician training.
