Summary

Tyne Gangway are looking for a Business Administrator to learn and perform accounts duties including Client invoicing, supplier payments, project cost control & forecasting, invoice reconciliation, timesheet collection and other paperwork collection & input, and other related duties as may be required to complete and deliver projects.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Responsible for the following categories of work as directed:
    Learn from peers engaging in knowledge transfer
  • Maintain supplier relationships to build a Supplier list with key suppliers for the possible products needed to reply to complex tenders
  • Where suppliers are involved in design activities, to ensure that the scope, checking and responsibilities are understood and followed
  • Support liaison between engineering and suppliers to ensure that technical solutions are suitable
  • Assist to organise the cost control for the supply of materials, subcontractors and resources related to the Company’s fabrication workshop and any site works
  • Assist with the monitoring the goods inward process to manage supplier invoicing and payments
  • Assist with the monitoring of project performance, control & input timesheets and raise appropriate invoices and supporting evidence in line with project payment terms
  • Gather appropriate delivery documentation and photographic evidence as backup for invoice processes
  • Co-ordinate material stock budgets and manage stock levels to maintain good value for purchases vs tied up capital
  • Co-ordinate upcoming project forecasts, changes to SG&A and produce P&L reports as required
  • Follow up to date QHSE procedures, audit findings, safety signage etc. and provide observations or feedback as required
  • Follow up to date risk assessments in the performance of works
  • Do not walk past a potential HSE issue, raise it with the relevant department. Likewise with quality concerns and oppportunities for improvement

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

maths and English (grade grade 5 minimum)

About this employer

Tyne Gangway was established in 1934 when most of the world’s marine access equipment was manufactured from selected hardwood and built by skilled carpenters. In the 1950s Aluminium gangways were introduced to the market; the construction was aluminium angle and plate with rivetted connections. In the 1960s Tyne Gangway were pioneers in the introduction of lightweight aluminium alloys for manufacturing their gangways. Their reputation grew and at one point they were the largest supplier of gangways in the world. Boasting in 1965 that they had supplied gangways and accommodation ladders to 78% of the ships completed in the UK.
