Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented HR Support Apprentice to join our Human Resources team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to start a career in HR, gaining hands-on experience while studying towards a Level 3 HR Support Apprenticeship.

Wage

£14,918.80 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Provide administrative support across all HR functions
  • Update employee records using the HR system such as with sickness absence, maternity/paternity, TOIL and changes to staff details such as address or telephone numbers
  • Assist with drafting job adverts for the hiring managers approval before uploading to the relevant job boards i.e. website, LinkedIn, Indeed and social media
  • Assist in coordinating recruitment and onboarding processes
  • Help draft contracts, letters, and other HR documents
  • Respond to general HR queries from staff in a professional and confidential manner
  • Support with organising training sessions and tracking attendance
  • Assist with payroll and absence reporting tasks
  • Ensure HR systems and filing are kept accurate and up to date
  • Help support employee engagement activities and internal communications
  • Carry out pre-employment checks for the onboarding of new employees such as retrieving references, completing DBS checks and conducting right to work checks in a timely manner
  • Liaising with the IT Administrator and Practice Manager for all IT & Facilities requirements and providing assistance to other areas of the administrative department when workloads allow.
  • Stay informed of relevant HR policies and employment law basics

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Service Delivery: Delivers excellent customer service on a range of HR queries and requirements, providing solutions, advice and support primarily to managers. Builds managers’ expertise in HR matters, improving their ability to handle repeated situations themselves where appropriate. Uses agreed systems and processes to deliver service to customers. Takes the initiative to meet agreed individual and team KPIs in line with company policy, values, standards. Plans and organises their work, often without direct supervision, to meet commitments and KPIs.
  • Problem Solving: Uses sound questioning and active listening skills to understand requirements and establish root causes before developing HR solutions. Takes ownership through to resolution, escalating complex situations as appropriate.
  • Communication & Interpersonal: Deals effectively with customers/colleagues, using sound interpersonal skills and communicating well through a range of media eg phone, face to face, email, internet. Adapts their style to their audience. Builds trust and sound relationships with customers. Handles conflict and sensitive HR situations professionally and confidentially.
  • Teamwork: Consistently supports colleagues /collaborates within the team and HR to achieve results. Builds/maintains strong working relationships with others in the team and across HR where necessary.
  • Process Improvement: Identifies opportunities to improve HR performance and service; acts on them within the authority of their role. Supports implementation of HR changes/projects with the business.
  • Managing HR Information: Maintains required HR records as part of services delivered. Prepares reports and management information from HR data, with interpretation as required.
  • Personal Development: Keeps up to date with business changes and HR legal/policy/process changes relevant to their role. Seeks feedback and acts on it to improve their performance and overall capability.

Training schedule

  • One Tuesday evening per week at Telford College 6pm - 9pm
  • Assigned mentor within the workplace
  • Assessor visits from Telford College

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade Level 2 FS or GCSE 4,C)
  • Maths (grade Level 2 FS or GCSE 4,C)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

The role may require travelling to other offices so a driving licence would be preferred. Due to being a Solicitors firm, outside of the role in HR, we work with very confidential and sensitive information surrounding clients and therefore we would prefer the Apprentice be over the age of 18 years old
