Summary

BPL Engineering Group Ltd is seeking an Apprentice Toolmaker to join their team. As an apprentice, you will assist in manufacturing, repairing and maintaining precision tools, jigs, fixtures and moulds, learn machining, measuring, and quality control under skilled supervision.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Daily Tasks:

  • Assist in setting up and operating manual and CNC machines, measure and inspect components using precision tools (micrometres, verniers, gauges)
  • Clean and maintain tools, equipment and work areas
  • Follow technical drawings and specifications under supervision 
  • Support repairs and adjustments to tooling, jigs and fixtures

Weekly tasks:

  • Participate in scheduled maintenance of workshop machinery
  • Assist in assembling and testing new tooling projects
  • Practice and develop skills in CAD/CAM and machining processes

Training schedule

  • This is a Level 3 Engineering Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship, delivered over a 37-month period
  • The apprentice will attend the training centre, In-Comm Training Services in Aldridge, WS9 8UG, 2 and a half days per week for the first 14-months

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

English and Maths (grade 9-4 minimum)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

Candidate should have a genuine interest in engineering, mechanics, and/or manufacturing - Good hand-eye coordination and time management. Previous work experience in an engineering or mechanical environment is desirable. Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes or CAD/CAM systems. Candidate must hold a full UK driving licence.
