Summary
Dedalus UK are rapidly growing and we are looking for an Apprentice Software Tester to join the Digital Solutions team in Leeds, UK. You will be given the chance to develop your current skills as well as keep up to date with the latest technologies in an engaging, comfortable yet hardworking environment.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Test Planning and Execution: Develop, document, and execute test cases and plans to validate healthcare software functionality, usability, and performance
- Manual Testing: Conduct manual testing using a variety of tools on various Dedalus products to identify defects, verify functionality, and assess usability’
- Requirements Analysis: Collaborate with customers, developers, and healthcare professionals to understand application requirements and ensure they are met in the software
- Defect Reporting and Management: Identify, log, and track software bugs and issues, working closely with the development team to ensure timely resolution
- Compliance and Validation Testing: Ensure software meets regulatory requirements (e.g., WCAG2.2) and adheres to healthcare industry standards
- Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation for release notes and user guides, test plans, and test cases
- Continuous Improvement: Dedalus will support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance testing processes, tools, and techniques
- Sprint Planning Design Input: Participate in design sessions to identify and address potential issues in application designs before development begins
- Customer facing support - Occasionally a customer will request on site support from the testers

What you'll learn
Course contents
- apply static test techniques
- apply Black Box test techniques such as Equivalence Partitioning, Boundary Value Analysis, Decision Table Testing and State Transition Testing
- analyse test objectives and requirements/test basis to define test scope and coverage criteria
- use tools to automate, manage or support any test activity
- Apply a regression strategy including selection of tests, maintenance of regression suites and identifying tests suitable for automation
- use defect tracking tools
- adapt and apply testing activities according to industry standard development methodologies (sequential and iterative)
- apply the range of different software test types within the broad categories of Functional, Non-Functional (Security, Performance & Usability), and White Box/Structural Testing
- apply and support testing at different Test Levels appropriate to the Software Development Lifecycle (such as Unit Testing, Component Integration Testing, System Testing, System Integration Testing and User Acceptance Testing), taking into account the fundamentals of testing
- conform to specific industry standards where appropriate (such as GDPR, health informatics, safety critical, etc.) related to software testing
- maintain up to date knowledge of technological developments in the field of Software Testing
- record and interpret test progress and results, communicating test status to the relevant stakeholders
- Design and follow tests to achieve coverage criteria

Training schedule
Training is provided by The Coders Guild who have a highly skilled professional software tester who will equip you with the knowledge and experience to fast track your way to becoming a software tester. Everything you learn during the sessions will be absolutely current and directly applicable to your work and career.
Online training is provided to very quickly teach you foundational knowledge and skills to apply in your workplace.
Functional skills English and maths if required and agreed by employer.
Software Tester Level 4 (Higher National Certificate).

The Coders Guild is an online Training Provider. There may be occasions where training is delivered in person, but notice will be provided.

After this apprenticeship
The Test Team is currently comprised of 5 people: Test Manager, Test Lead and three Software Testers. Most of the test team are former apprentices themselves, who have honed their craft with the support of Dedalus and now perform a large variety of tasks such as automation, accessibility, and performance testing. It is hoped the successful candidate will follow the same path as previous apprentices.
