Warehousing Apprentice required for a successful company based in Basildon. Learning how a functioning warehouse is run. Handling & storing goods, order processing, safety & security, customer service, loading & unloading vehicles & containers, forklift truck use (age dependent), booking in / out, manifests, pick ‘n’ pack, teamwork.

Wage

£14,918.80 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Core warehouse working hours are 06.00 – 20.00 Monday to Friday Shift 1 is 06.00 – 14.30 Shift 1 is 11.30 – 20.00 Mid Shift is 09.00 – 17.30.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Work in a shift team, booking in UK & European vehicles, import & export vehicles, assist with loading & unloading of vehicles, working with the office staff in the relevant teams to ensure cargo is loaded & unloaded correctly,  checking documentation for cargo is correct including customs documentation, ensuring the warehouse is kept clean and tidy at all times, to ensure the safety of all staff.

  • Decant, pack products in line with organisational procedures.
  • Communicate with others verbally, for example internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers.
  • Communicate in writing with others, for example internal and external customers, colleagues and managers.
  • Load and unload products, considering the product that is to be moved and its current and planned destination.
  • Use tools and equipment to aid in product handling.
  • Use information technology and digital systems. Comply with GDPR and cyber security.
  • Locate and use operational information, electronic or paper based, required to fulfil contractual requirements.
  • Select, prepare, and use packaging materials that reduce waste and mitigate environmental impacts.
  • support under instruction scheduled and unscheduled stock taking activities relevant to the organisation and product.
  • Identify and escalate problems beyond own responsibility.
  • Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. Segregate resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
  • Follow equity, diversity and inclusion rules.

Training schedule

Full Warehouse Apprenticeship at Level 2.

No attendance at college as all work will be assessed in the workplace.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

Maths and English (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

You MUST be able to drive or live within walking distance of SS14 3WD. Parking on site is free of charge. A good level of physical fitness is required due to the manual labour element of the role. Applicants will be expected to work on the sift rota as stated above so should be able to get to the location for 06.00.
