Summary

To plan & deliver coaching sessions for gymnasts (2-18yrs), matching ages, maturity, ability and be fully inclusive. This involves weekly planning, coaching, facilitating & tracking skills progress, implementation and feedback to coaches, parents & gymnasts.

Wage

£14,133.60 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Due to Term Time, holiday is paid in August. Holiday to be taken at the end of the school terms, not during school time. Pay is for hours worked in the month and includes pay towards off the job CPD hours like study time.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Coaching general gym all ages
  • Facilitating (alongside the team) the process of competitions from hosting to even travel, from coach planning, team selection, skills required, delivering outcomes with admin support and fete choreography
  • Support Academy Young Leaders on their learning journey; be a strong leader, role model, who is empathetic and transparent to all stakeholders
  • Setting up & packing away equipment
  • Cleaning and maintenance of equipment
  • Admin duties around coaching role - Registers, Risk Assessments, H&S Policies, always a Team Player

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Planning and adapting sessions and activities that respond to customer feedback and encourage customers to develop a lifelong activity habit.
  • Coaching or leading pre-planned sport or physical activity sessions that are attractive to the target audience(s) and develop motivational relationships with customers.
  • Promoting a physical activity offer, (including but not exclusively) organised play and sport in the community which supports individuals on their behaviour change journey.
  • Working collaboratively with sports clubs and other community assets – including volunteers, public services, youth workers, the police and community champions.
  • Supporting customers to co-produce rewarding volunteering opportunities.
  • Supporting families to participate together in sport and physical activity.
  • Working effectively with customer insight to overcome individual, community and societal barriers to participation in physical activity and sport.
  • Contributing to the employer’s design of activities and services and practising the employer’s organisation’s values, policies and procedures.
  • Contributing to teams that deliver community events and festivals.
  • Supporting organisations to evaluate, develop and promote sessions and other opportunities such as outdoor group exercise and informal social play.
  • Maintaining personal safety and wellbeing, as well as that of customers.
  • Managing disruptive behaviours from individuals within the group setting.
  • Encouraging customers to be regularly active – both formally and informally – within sports clubs or leisure facilities including open-space.
  • Effectively using social media and technology, appropriately, to deliver targeted messages to identified customer groups for example children, teenagers, adults and older adults.
  • Effectively monitor and evaluate activities, sessions and projects using technology platforms to maintain accurate records and produce timely reports.

GCSE in:

GCSE's inc English & maths (grade (Grade 9 to 2 (A* to E)))

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

Travel between venues required, as second venue in Eastleigh. Setting up & packing away is a team effort involving just 2/3 people if 1 person is away the team suffers and timings slip; open clear communication is key at Horizon; the majority of classes are evenings starting around 3 or 4pm and finishing at 9pm; arriving on time is crucial. A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required.

About this employer

Delivering gymnastics to all ages and abilities, from 2yrs to adult, from beginner to seasoned gymnast performer. Disciplines are general gym, TeamGym, Rhythmic, Preschool, Artistic WAG, DMT, Trampolining, Freestyle We are a caring and nurturing club in a period of fast growth & transition. The successful candidate will have a great understanding of how the club operates and be fundamental in its foundations for growth. The more a candidate can give of themselves the more the club will give back in amazing opportunities to travel, collaborate with other clubs and learning what having a career in sport is all about.
