Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- To gain work experience supporting Finance in a wide range of duties in order to support the Council – including the income collection and supplier payment functions
- To input data and retrieve information from various computer systems as required.
- To assist with day-to-day queries from budget holders and other internal officers.
- To provide Financial System administration support, e.g. re-setting passwords
- Personally deal with incoming and outgoing emails and telephone calls where possible, referring others to appropriate officers for action
- Preparing financial journals for input
- To undertake reconciliation work as required
- To assist with external audit liaison and data gathering as required.
- Such other duties as may be required from time to time

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Record transactional data.
- Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
- Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
- Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
- Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
- Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
- Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training schedule
- You will work towards either your Level 2 or Level 3 Accounts Assistant qualification across a total duration of 17 months!

- All online/remote learning, no classroom or college day release
- An allocated tutor will support you throughout the apprenticeship!

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade 4)
- Maths (grade 4)
