Summary

The role of Technical Apprentice is to assist the Regional Technical team to support the regional and Group Business plan, commercial objectives, budgets and future growth requirements by being involved in Planning, Surveying and Technical matters. Employment will need to start before the 1st day at college 9/9/25 - please do not delay in applying.

What you'll do at work

Key responsibilities of the position:

  • Take a ‘whole company’ perspective to the performance of Building Homes. Changing Lives by positively influencing the business objectives whilst being Passionate, Collaborative and Respectful.
  • Support and Assist the Technical Manager and team in conducting their duties.
  • Provide Technical support to the Land and Technical team to assist during feasibility studies.
  • Partake and assist in Technical site visits, including current, new and potential sites to assist the construction management process.
  • Assist in the submission of Building Regulations and Warranty applications.
  • Support and Assist the Sales team with drawing/specification information and support, to ensure the correct and most accurate literature is shared with the customer by the sales team.
  • Ensure all working and project files are maintained and are up to date in accordance with policy and procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of key status reports and updates on all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) relating to the Technical function.
  • Communicate with statutory bodies, Local Authorities and external consultants with regards to the satisfactory discharge of Planning Conditions within an agreed time frame.
  • At all times comply with responsibilities under the Company’s Health and Safety and Environmental and Corporate Responsibility Policies and all other company policies, procedures, and instructions.
  • Any other duties as reasonably requested.

The overarching purpose for this role is to develop the candidates knowledge, skills and behaviours where applicable to their relevant qualification and professional discipline in line with their career path development plan.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Apply and integrate appropriate mathematical and technical knowledge in the completion of built environment site and/or office processes to contribute to the coordination of construction projects.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations and procedures. Identify and document risks and hazards. Apply statutory and company environmental and safe working practices. Produce construction project risk assessment and method statements.
  • Communicate verbally to internal and external stakeholders using a range of techniques in line with company policies.
  • Interpret and abstract contract documentation to develop site solutions.
  • Apply digital construction processes to produce resource lists from tender and contract documentation.
  • The use of project tendering, measurement and costing systems to assist with the planning of schedules of work and to provide early warning of problems for all contract phases on site.
  • Plan, carry out and manage own work in line with management requirements, assessing tasks, scheduling work, achieving deadlines, reviewing performance and keeping records of work undertaken.
  • Apply sustainable principles and low carbon processes in order to implement site environmental solutions.
  • Use information technology. For example, for document creation, communication, and information management. Comply with GDPR and cyber security.
  • Plan and undertake continued professional development (CPD) to maintain and enhance competence in their own area of practice.
  • Communicate in written form to internal and external stakeholders using a range of techniques and reporting mechanisms in line with company policies, using construction and built environment terminology.

Training schedule

Day release is one day per week during the academic term, delivered at our Basford campus.

The course is planned to start Tuesday 9th September. In order to start attending college, the successful candidate needs to have been interviewed, offered the role and started employment before this date.

The duration of the apprenticeship is 2 years.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

English & maths (grade minimum 4 or C or Level 2 pass)
