Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Operate furnaces, starting with manual tasks and progressing to full operation over time
- Inspect and test components to confirm correct processing and quality standards
- Handle goods in and out, including customer contact and forklift truck operation following training
- Support the production planner with scheduling and customer communications
- Perform other tasks as needed to support day-to-day operations
- Develop future skills in energy management, quality control, and process control
- Contribute to improving business efficiency and supporting a small company environment
- Support manufacturing processes including heat treatment, machining, and inspection
- Learn to use precision measuring tools and quality control techniques
- Follow safety and quality standards consistently
- Assist with production planning and workflow optimisation
- Maintain equipment and work areas to ensure efficiency and safety
- Collaborate with teams to solve problems and improve processes

- Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. For example, segregation of resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
- Comply with engineering standards and regulations. For example, British Standards (BS), International Organisation for Standardisation standards (ISO). European Norm (EN).
- Analyse engineering and manufacturing data and information to support technical outputs. For example, read and interpret text, data, engineering drawings, work instructions, method statements, operation manuals.
- Apply scientific, technical or engineering principles.
- Apply problem solving techniques to solutions for identified technical problems.
- Organise, plan and prioritise workflow and scheduling of work with stakeholders.
- Identify, organise and use resources to complete tasks, considering cost, quality, safety, security and environmental impact.
