Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
A typical week might look like this:
- Receiving a delivery of goods in and ensuring everything is booked into the system through purchase orders
- Conducting any daily counts on stock to ensure stock accuracy
- Maybe you’ll spend some time undertaking extra training such as Hazards Goods
- The afternoon could be spent in the ‘Goods Out’ department, working from the system to pick daily orders
- Once a month you'll be at Barnsley College for the in person element of the course
- Spending some time shadowing Daryl, so that you can understand the whole process of booking in items, picking orders and sending orders that are dispatched from Martek on a day-to-day basis
- You might spend some time learning how to run basic diagnostics on returned items still under warranty
- You might spend a few hours in the morning making sure your apprenticeship portfolio is up to date
- Then you’ll spend the day receiving goods in and ensuring that standards have been met within the warehouse
- If working in the ‘Goods Out’ department, you’ll ensure weights and dimensions are provided for each order that has been picked
- You might spend some time booking back in any returns that have been received from the week
- As it’s a Friday you’d get to clock off that little bit earlier and go enjoy your weekend
