Summary

Workshop Based Engineers visit client or remote locations to resolve or perform maintenance functions; Assessing, installing and fixing equipment or machinery.  Also responsible for assembling equipment, calibrating machinery, meeting with clients and suppliers, testing equipment, training and supporting other Engineers.

£16,881.80 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

There will also be Yard based duties that will need to be carried out as per management instruction.

Key Responsibilities Workshop Based Engineers:

  • Review and fault find each machine at set times, to avoid major problems in the future
  • Be well versed with the User Manual
  • Have all latest equipment to be used to repair the machine
  • Make a detailed report on what changes have been made and when the next service is to be scheduled
  • Order parts that need replacement in advance, so the work does not prevent machines going back out on hire
  • Machines have to be serviced and repaired where necessary and quickly
  • Work in a team so that servicing and repairs can be achieved within tight deadlines
  • Plan the servicing work in advance so the output of the factory is not affected
  • Delegate work amongst each other so that the work can be conducted at a fast pace
  • Produce reports on the work that is done on each machine
  • Ensure that any parts that need replacing are available in stock
  • Where possible improve the performance of the machine
  • Conduct safety checks on all the machines or it could prove to be dangerous for the workers working on them
  • Maintain an inventory of equipment required for the repair work
  • Have a good working knowledge of all the latest machinery that is available in the market
  • Have a hands-on approach in effecting repairs to machinery, sourcing cost effective parts and supplies as necessary
  • Inspect all the machines and make reports for the management on new machine requirements
  • Effect repairs to mailing machines and associated equipment where necessary
  • Maintain, support and service any piece of production associated equipment
  • Continual improvement of own skills through training and knowledge sharing

Maintenance & Repairs: Learn to inspect, service, and repair plant machinery such as excavators, dumpers, cranes, and generators.

Diagnostics: Assist in identifying mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults.

Workshop Duties: Support the team in assembling, dismantling, and modifying mechanical systems.

Record Keeping: Help document service and repair work using digital or paper-based systems.

Health & Safety: Follow safety protocols, wear PPE, and report hazards or incidents.

Parts & Inventory: Learn to request and manage parts for repairs and maintenance.
