Summary

A fantastic opportunity for a Tower Hamlets resident (!) to become a qualified Construction Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry through working for a leading contractor, Midgard, part of the JRL Group. We offer opportunity and support to develop and learn. Candidates will manage costs relating to construction projects.

£15,704 to £25,396.80, depending on your age

Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm, times may vary depending on project. Our usual weekly working time is 45 hours, this will be adjusted to 40 hours for people under the age of 18.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

You will:

  • Assist senior managers with the budgeting of projects
  • Establish and control cost
  • Ensure that business targets and KPI's will be exceeded
  • Prepare project cost evaluations based on the project plan
  • Produce commercial reports, review results and consider trends
  • Select and manage specialist contractors and sub-contractors
  • Send out enquiries, collate prices, compare tenders and negotiate
  • Assist senior managers with legal and contractual issues

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Health and Safety: Apply health and safety issues to all activities.
  • Sustainability: Demonstrate application of the principles of sustainability.
  • Construction Technology: Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects
  • Contracts: Be able to apply different types of contracts to different situations.
  • Procurement: Assist in the selection of and negotiation with specialist contractors for a construction project.
  • Cost control: Assist in the measurement and costing of construction works during a project.
  • Financial reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial reports, cash flow and cost forecasts for a construction project.
  • Administration: Assist in the collection, collation and storage of relevant data and its analysis.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 5)
  • Maths (grade 5)
