Summary

We have an excellent opportunity for a candidate looking to create a career as a Quantity Surveyor to join us as a trainee. This opportunity will provide you with a chance to be trained and guided in your journey to becoming a Quantity Surveyor with all the support you require.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • To assist the QS with commercial administration & management 
  • Management and control of subcontract accounts & variation accounts
  • General day-to-day administrative duties
  • Preparation of documentation & the like for valuation, procurement or commercial administration
  • Assisting the buyers with material procurement & buying opportunities
  • To support the QS in the management of day-to-day cost control, monitoring & reporting
  • Develop an understanding of contracts, specifications and pricing

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Health and Safety: Apply health and safety issues to all activities.
  • Sustainability: Demonstrate application of the principles of sustainability.
  • Construction Technology: Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects
  • Contracts: Be able to apply different types of contracts to different situations.
  • Procurement: Assist in the selection of and negotiation with specialist contractors for a construction project.
  • Cost control: Assist in the measurement and costing of construction works during a project.
  • Financial reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial reports, cash flow and cost forecasts for a construction project.
  • Administration: Assist in the collection, collation and storage of relevant data and its analysis.

Training schedule

One day per week day release to the Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford to complete a Certificate of Higher Education in Quantity Surveying & Commercial Management (Level 4), commencing Jan 2026.

More training information

Evidence of Level 2 qualifications in 4 subjects including Maths and English e.g. GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, Functional Skills, or ESFA-approved equivalents*.
Evidence of at least 112 UCAS Tariff points at Level 3 e.g. A Levels, BTEC National Diploma (or equivalent)*.
