Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

We are looking for an enthusiastic apprentice to work with All Aboard Youth Rowing as a Coach based at Warrington Rowing Club, to work towards the Community Activator Coach Level 2, over the duration of 15 months, alongside you daily roles and responsiblities.

A background in the sport of rowing is not required, we can teach you everything you need to know. However, some experience of organised sport or gym-based training is desirable.

The apprentice coach will assist with the delivery of on-water rowing and land-based sessions on the rowing machine and in the gym.

At All Aboard Youth Rowing you will:

  • Get paid to do something you love
  • Assist with and eventually coach water rowing, land based rowing and gym sessions
  • Get the chance to learn new skills, meet new contacts and open up future opportunities in sport
  • Make a positive difference in the local community
  • Work with a welcoming and supportive team
  • Get a load of training opportunities at the same time

You will be a British Rowing Apprentice Rowing Coach, which allows you to get a qualification and get paid to do it.

You will be based at Warrington Rowing Club. The club provides free access to rowing to children from local state secondary schools.

Rowing is a sport that requires skill and technique in a boat as well as a dedication to land based training.

As an apprentice coach you will support the delivery of rowing on the river alongside our experienced rowing coaches and land-based training on the rowing machine and gym.

British Rowing will support your development as a coach enrolling you on to a Level 2 Club Coach award and allowing you the opportunity to shadow coaches working with Olympic pathway athletes.

Your qualification will be delivered by Lifetime Training, but you will be part of the Coach Core family - giving you access to loads of extra perks, including kit, training from partners such as UK Coaching and the chance to coach at local/regional sport events.

A background in sport of rowing is not required however, we would like candidates to demonstrate at interview how their prior experience in different sports or gym-based training could apply to the sport of rowing.

Rowing is an outdoor sport and rowing coaches will lead sessions in all weathers. We'll provide you with the right clothing to make sure you're safe and warm, but working in all weathers should be anticipated.
