Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the preparation and review of monthly management reports
  • Assisting in month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Participating in the year-end restructuring process
  • Supporting the team during the budget and forecasting process
  • Supporting cost centre reviews, variance analysis, and identifying cost-saving opportunities
  • Helping implement management accounts policies and procedures
  • Collaborating with various departments to gather and analyse financial information
  • Assisting in the preparation of monthly journals
  • Assisting in reconciling certain balance sheet accounts
  • Assisting in the timely allocation and approval of AP invoices and PO support
  • Supporting in the set up overhead projects
  • Assisting the management accounts team on ad hoc tasks as required

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Build trusted and sustainable relationships with individuals and organisations. Consistently support individuals and collaborate to achieve results as part of a team.
  • Influence the impact of business decisions on relevant and affected communities based on an appreciation of different organisations and the environments in which they operate.
  • Communicate in a clear, articulate and appropriate manner.  Adapt communications to suit different  situations, individuals or teams.
  • Identify ethical dilemmas, understand the implications and behave appropriately. Understand their legal responsibilities, both within the letter and the spirit of the law, as well as be aware of the procedures for reporting concerns over potentially unethical activities.
  • Take ownership of allocated projects and effectively manage their own time and the time of others.  Demonstrate good project management skills to deliver high quality work within the appropriate timeline. Act as a role model and motivate others to deliver results.
  • Evaluate information quickly and draw accurate conclusions. Assess a problem from multiple angles  to ensure all relevant issues are considered. Gather the appropriate facts and evidence in order to make decisions effectively.

ACCA Level 7

There are three levels including Applied Knowledge, Applied Skills and Strategic Professional.

Applied Knowledge helps you understand the role of accounting in the business environment, and develop the practical skills and techniques expected of an accountant working in business.

By studying Strategic Professional, you’ll learn advanced techniques, skills, and the professional ethics required of an accountant or consultant operating at a senior level. Once you’ve successfully passed you can apply to be a full member of ACCA.

The Apprenticeship standard details the essential Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours that somebody would need to demonstrate to be successful in this job role, this includes, Business Awareness, Ethics, Communication, Leadership, Planning and Prioritisation and Problem Solving. Apprentices will need to show they are competent in all the areas detailed in the standard when they take End Point Assessment.

The Knowledge areas of the standard will typically be covered through completion of the qualification. Skills and Behaviours are developed through workshops, e-learning, workplace training and practical experience provided ‘on-the-job’.

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • English (grade 9-5)
  • Maths (grade 9-5)

A Level or equivalent in:

Any x 3 (grade A-C)

Desirable qualifications

Other in:

  • AAT (grade Level 4)
  • Degree (grade Any)

Other requirements

Working hours are 9.00am - 5.30pm. Public transport - closest station being East Croydon. 33 days holiday (including bank holidays and company nominated days). Pension- min 4.5% of monthly salary for pension contributions and the Company match to make a total of 9%, can exchange more pension contribution through Pebbles, but the company will not match higher than 7% of monthly salary. Benefits- will be eligible subject to policy terms and eligibility requirements, to participate in any benefit schemes that are provided by us, as follows: Death in service four times reference salary, Accident insurance, private medical health cash plan, company sick pay, depending on length of service. Access to other benefits through our Pebbles.
