Summary

As an IT Support Apprentice, you will provide first-line technical support to internal staff and help maintain the organisation's IT systems. This apprenticeship offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working toward a recognised qualification in IT support.

Wage

£20,000 a year

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Provide first-line technical support via phone, email, and in person.
  • Assist with diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Set up and configure new equipment including PCs, laptops, and mobile devices.
  • Support users with password resets, software installations, and system access.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of support requests using the helpdesk ticketing system.
  • Help with routine maintenance tasks such as updates, patching, and backups.
  • Assist with onboarding and off-boarding processes for staff.
  • Support IT projects, including upgrades and equipment rollouts.
  • Follow company policies and procedures related to IT security and data protection.

  • Communicate using a variety of tools and approaches, adapting language for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Apply continuous professional development CPD to support their own learning, business needs and technical developments.

Training schedule

  • You will work towards a Level 3 IT Support Technician Apprenticeship (or equivalent), combining on-the-job training with classroom or online learning.
  • Support will be provided for both your academic and professional development.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

Desirable: Prior experience providing IT help (even informally) is an advantage. Knowledge of networking basics (Wi-Fi, routers, IP addresses). Familiarity with common operating systems (Windows 10/11, macOS). Any relevant IT-related qualification or coursework.
