Summary

The opportunity to work for a leading logistics company as an apprentice mechanic/welder. You will learn both on the job and also on day release.You will learn both practical and knowledge elements of the role as you progress through the apprenticeship, with potential career opportunities following completion of the apprenticeship.

Wage

£15,704 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Main responsibilities once deemed competent through training will be:

  • To undertake general maintenance to trailers
  • To ensure the safe use of company-issued equipment for the task at hand
  • To fabricate trailer modifications and other equipment for the business
  • To provide assistance and support to other departments once the training was completed and as business needs dictate
  • To be proactive in health and safety hazard reporting to the business for required action to be taken
  • To undertake forklift and scissor lift duties once suitable and sufficient training has been undertaken
  • Driving company vehicles– for appropriate licenses held, when required

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

Maths (grade 4-9 or equivalent)

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

English (grade 4-9 or equivalent)

BTEC in:

Engineering (grade pass or above)

•A willingness to undertake a wide variety of tasks to include HGV Trailer Repairs, welding, fabrication of modifications, and washing of vehicles for inspection •Previous knowledge or aptitude for general maintenance repairs to site and fleet •Able to multitask, have ability to prioritise and be effective at problem solving •Have a positive, can-do attitude. •Be organized, a good team player, and, where required, following training, able to work on your own initiative. Be comfortable learning to drive on-site vehicles
