What you'll do at work

Day-to-Day Activities:

  • Preparing and adapting learning resources.
  • Supporting pupils during lessons, playtimes, and transitions.
  • Helping pupils access all aspects of the curriculum.
  • Providing personal care support if needed (e.g. toileting, feeding, or mobility).
  • Encouraging social interaction with peers.
  • Supporting inclusive activities both in and out of the classroom.
  • Updating communication logs and behaviour records.

  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

As an apprentice, you’ll be supported in developing the skills needed to succeed in the role. We’re looking for someone who demonstrates the following qualities and is eager to learn: 1. Good Communication Skills ○ Able to speak clearly and listen well to both children and adults. ○ Willing to learn how to adapt communication for different needs and age groups. 2. Kindness, Patience, and Empathy ○ A caring and supportive attitude towards children, especially those with additional needs. ○ Willing to take time to build trust and positive relationships. 3. Willingness to Learn About SEN ○ Interest in supporting children with special educational needs such as autism, ADHD, or speech and language difficulties. ○ Openness to training and guidance from experienced staff. 4. Teamwork and Collaboration ○ Able to work well with others and follow instructions from teachers and mentors. ○ Enthusiastic about being part of a supportive school community. 5.
