Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Assist with day-to-day financial tasks like data entry, invoice processing, bank reconciliations, and basic accounting functions. actively study towards a relevant accounting qualification like AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) to develop a comprehensive understanding of financial practices within a company.

• Data entry: Inputting financial transactions into accounting software, including sales invoices, purchase orders, journals & cashbook postings.
• Invoice processing: Verifying invoices for accuracy, matching them to purchase orders, and submitting them for payment.
• Bank reconciliations: Matching bank statements to internal records to ensure accuracy.
• Basic financial reporting: Support the management accounts team to produce weekly and monthly management information.
• Learning and development: Actively participating in training programs related to accounting principles, financial software, and professional development.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Your training plan

An apprenticeship allows you to earn a wage, gain valuable work experience and industry-specific competence. You will be expected
to work towards the Accounts/Finance Assistant Level 2, with support from your employer and the Chesterfield College Group.

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)
