Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Duties include:
- Posting supplier invoices and proposing weekly payments
- Posting employee expenses and proposing weekly payments
- Importing customer invoices to relevant portals
- Supporting month end preparation
- Reviewing aged payable balances
- Taking ownership of Payroll Company communication and acting as point of contact
- Support the Credit Control team when required to allocate cash and clear customer queries
- Support the Payroll team when required to process timesheets

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
- Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
- Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
- Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
- Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
- Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
- Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
- Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
- Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule
- Advanced Diploma - AAT Level 3 Advanced builds on the knowledge gained in the Foundation level
- If you work in accounts or have studied accountancy before, you may be able to start at this level. You’ll learn complex accounting techniques, and master a number of accounting disciplines including financial processes, advanced bookkeeping, final accounts and ethical practices for accountants
- This level will encourage you to master more complex accounting principles in both Bookkeeping and Management Accounting. You’ll develop the technical skills to start, or progress, your career in accountancy and this will allow you to continue with your studies onto Level 4
- To pass this level you’ll need to study five units (also known as subjects), which are all mandatory
- Four of the units are examined individually and there is also a synoptic assessment that you’ll take towards the end of the level, which incorporates the final two units as well as drawing on all of the other units
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE or equivalent in:
- Basic Maths (grade 9/A* - 4/C)
- Standard English (grade 9/A* - 4/C)
Desirable qualifications
A Level or equivalent in:

Other requirements
The salary is National Minimum Wage of age. Benefits include: 25 days annual leave and 8 days stats. Company pension. 3 volunteer days per year (1 to be taken through Caval Foundation). Fruit and drinks in office. Flexible working environment. Team socials. Hybrid working: At the moment we offer a 3 day office, 2 day WFH split once a new employee has completed their probation period. During the probation period, a new employee is expected to be in the office every day.
About this employer
The Finance team is going through a bit of a refresh in terms of personality and processes. The team are friendly, fun and driven, willing to go the extra mile. We are very flexible when needed to accommodate a good work life balance, and it's something I am personally passionate about offering.The wider business is super friendly and everyone is very approachable, including the directors. A lot of people have worked at Caval for a long period of time.
After this apprenticeship
- There's a clear path through exam qualification through AAT to ACCA to grow within the business and the team. We have an Assistant Accountant within the team already, and will naturally progress upwards into an Management Accountant role
