Hours
Your training hours will be Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm, giving you maximum exposure to our expert team. Once qualified, you’ll move onto a rotating shift pattern: Week 1: 6:00am – 2:00pm Week 2: 2:00pm – 10:00pm

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

  • You’ll become immersed in every step of our renowned textile-making process
  • From the initial design concepts to the final product leaving our mill, you’ll rotate across departments to gain a deep understanding of what it takes to produce truly premium fabrics
  • Whether your future lies in warping, weaving, or pattern creation, this apprenticeship is about helping you find your niche while learning from some of the most skilled professionals in the industry

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Read and interpret information for example, standard operating procedures, manuals, production plans, handover notes.
  • Organise and prioritise own work.
  • Follow health, safety and environmental procedures in line with regulations, standards, and guidance.
  • Apply sustainability principles for example, minimise energy usage, minimise waste, and recycle materials.
  • Follow operating procedures.
  • Check resources.
  • Check and set up equipment and machinery.
  • Conduct start-up quality checks.
  • Feed textile product components into the machine.
  • Monitor manufacturing process; adjust parameters for example, speed, temperature.
  • Conduct in-process production quality checks (roaming).
  • Conduct final inspection quality checks.
  • Prepare output for next stage for example, label, package.
  • Monitor own performance data.
  • Collect and record information: text or data - paper based or electronic.
  • Identify and segregate resources for reuse, recycling, and disposal.
  • Follow basic maintenance procedures for example, clean, oil and lubricate machinery.
  • Identify and resolve common faults and issues.
  • Escalate issues.
  • Identify opportunity for continuous improvement.
  • Use information technology and digital systems. Comply with cyber security.
  • Apply team working principles.
  • Communicate with others for example, colleagues, customers, and managers.
  • Carry out and record learning and development activities.

Your training plan

Training will take place at work with some classes at the Textile Centre of Excellence (New Hey Road HD3).

The Textile Centre of Excellence is a private, not for profit Group Training Association providing training across a range of industries and sectors. The Centre has a Board of non-Executive Directors who own and run textile manufacturing and processing businesses.

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)
