Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

With a group of over 30 companies we have a very diverse workload and you will gain experience in Commercial Contracts including as a SaaS provider, Company Secretarial Work for a private limited company, mergers and acquisitions, IP, data protection, AI implementation and mangement, employment law and litigation.

You will report to the Group General Counsel and be the fourth member of the team. The team is made up of the GC, a Legal Counsel who we supported to qualify this year and another apprentice who will complete their SQE1 next year.

We work remotely but our GC is available throughout the day to support you in the work that you do.

·       Administrative Support: Handling correspondence, managing files and maintaining records including our central resource library for in-house clients "The Legal Support Hub".

·       Operational project work: To manage the workload that we process we are always look to implement new "legal tech" and systems. We run a rolling program of projects to drive efficiency in every area of our work .

·       Property and IP: Maintain central registers.

·       Data Protection: Assisting with subject access requests and breach reports.

·       Legal Research: Assisting with legal research using on-line resources and databases.

·       Document Drafting: Preparing legal documents using templates and guidance. In particular you will support the General Counsel with drafting in litigation.

·       Case Management: Assisting the General Counsel in litigation to manage deadlines and requirements including helping with the preparation of court documents and bundles.

·       Client Communication: Interacting with internal clients and other parties involved in legal matters.

·       Supplier and Client due diligence: Ensuring our clients and suppliers are compliant with key legislation to protect our reputation.

·       Learning and Development: Spending time studying for legal qualifications (e.g., SQE, paralegal qualifications) and developing legal knowledge.

·       Pro-Bono Work: We are part of the In-House Pro Bono Pledge and a member of LawWorks. Each team member must complete at least 4 hours pro bono work each year.

Insurance: Supporting the General Counsel in management of the international insurance program.

Your training plan

As a Paralegal Apprentice with BPP, you will complete the Paralegal Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship. Additional learning within the apprenticeship will enable you to be awarded a Level 4 Certificate of Higher Education in Legal Services which can afford you exemptions from the first two years of the Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship.

Your apprenticeship shall be delivered by a blend of online and face-to-face training from and on-the-job learning.

Essential qualifications

A Level in:

Any three or Equivalent (grade BBB)

About this company

We are a private limited company operating across 24 international offices and supplying into 70 countries. You will be part of the central function that supports 26 companies. Those companies predominantly provide recruitment services but we also have a number of "tech" companies providing everything from a Social Inclusivity Job Board, a communications apps and SaaS provider. We grow through investment in new start ups and through acquisitions. Typically each year we have two start-ups and at least one acquisition. You will have the opportunity to assist our General Counsel through these transactions. We have over 800 people working around the world and so, to meet demand, we run a rolling improvement program where team members are tasked with finding new ways to manage matters effectively.

After this apprenticeship

We are looking for someone to join to become Legal Counsel on completion of SQE 2. During your training we operate a promotion criteria starting as an Apprentice, moving to Paralegal, Senior Paralegal, Legal Advisor, Senior Legal Advisor and then Legal Counsel on qualification. After this there is a longer program to Senior Legal Counsel
