Summary

The apprenticeship is an 18-month long course and consists of 30 hours per week of paid work. You will attend the college one morning a week & spend the rest of their week shadowing professionals, attending training opportunities & eventually running your own after school/lunch clubs with an aim to eventually progress onto curricular delivery.

£11,778 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

In an average day, the apprentice will be shadowing an Activity Professional delivering day to day duties in schools and in time, be running their own after school clubs
The aim is for the applicant to progress onto their own curricular PE delivery.
Throughout the term, the apprentice will have additional training opportunities such as internal CPD, compliance courses and affiliated qualifications such as British Gymnastics, British Fencing etc.

Your training plan

The apprenticeship training is delivered through a combination of workplace learning and regular college attendance. This training will teach you the knowledge, skills and behaviours set out in the Sports Coach Level 4 standard. On completion the apprentice will receive Level 4 Sports Coach qualification.

GCSE in:

  • English (grade Grade 9 – 4 / A* - C))
  • Maths (grade Grade 9 – 4 / A* - C))

Other in:

Sport (grade Level 3)

Other requirements

There is the possibility of working on a casual basis (supporting Holiday Camps) until the apprenticeship starts. You MUST be prepared to commit to your work and training for the duration of the apprenticeship. In some cases, you may be required to have a telephone interview with Yeovil College prior to your application being passed on. After this apprenticeship

By the end of your apprenticeship, the L4 will progress you onto university opportunities at foundation degree level. Equally, we’re always keen to offer internal progressions beyond your apprenticeship such as: Team Leader, Operations Management, Project Management, Wraparound Lead etc.
