Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

This Level 2 role is a 24-month placement within the Production team in Dereham.  Within the Production team we work on a range of products in a variety of different roles.

You’ll be working with experienced production operatives and other professionals, so a placement with us is the perfect opportunity to learn from a variety of people and get involved with real projects/tasks whilst gaining relevant experience.  You will be provided with multiple opportunities to develop transferable skills in addition to gaining ‘hands on’ experience in a technical discipline.  You will attend college one day per week and spend the remainder of the time at Cressall.

Example tasks will include:

  • Mechanically fit/assemble and wire large steel enclosures using hand tools, air tools and mechanically assisted tools
  • Read and interpret technical drawings (using computers) and build to required specification
  • Check parts and products and build to draw
  • Problem solve and make quality decisions
  • Work to high Health and safety standards
  • Work to standard and support in introducing new build ideas to make improvements with build
  • Be part of a continuous lean culture always thinking of ideas to reduce build times, improve RFT etc.

Your training plan

For the full apprenticeship, candidates will complete:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Operations (Skills)- Mechanical/ Manufacturing.
  • Level 2 Certificate in Engineering Operations (Knowledge)- Mechanical/ Manufacturing.
  • Level 2 Award in Functional Skills Mathematics.
  • Level 2 Award in Functional Skills English. 
     
    Apprentices will also work towards and take the test for Level 2 English and Maths prior to taking the End Point Assessment (EPA). 
     
    For the End Point Assessment (EPA) apprentices will undertake a professional discussion, portfolio (including a task report) and practical skills observation. 
     
    Apprentices must attend college sessions one day per week at the Ipswich Road campus, located near Norwich city centre.
