Summary

We’re looking for a friendly, reliable person to join us as a Housing & Property Management Apprentice at Queens College in Birmingham. You'll support the Building Manager with daily operations and help ensure smooth service for residents and visitors—while working toward a Level 2 qualification with Total Training Provision.

Wage

£13,741 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Daily duties

1.         Deal with Resident’s reasonable requests for assistance.

2.         Always ensure safe use of facilities including checking alarms & CCTV equipment.

3.         Monitor security of building using the systems provided.

4.         Communicate and deal with Contractors/Suppliers when arriving on site.

5.         Report all faults, complaints (ie unreasonable behaviour) or issues to the Management Company. 

6.         Be at the front reception at busy times (9-11am and 4-5pm) and ensure the following:

·         Answer entry/videophone when called.

·         Deal with visitors to site and give them directions to the apartment they are visiting.

·         Direct all parcel and post deliveries to the post room, signing for them as needed.

·         Maintain logs for site visitors/contractors/cleaners.

7.         Conduct at least two full patrols a day – 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon.

8.         Whilst on patrol:

·         Check on all Plant rooms, ensuring that all systems are in working order.

·         Check all floor and car park areas ensuring that they are clean, secure and litter free.

·         Make a note of any fault found and contact the relevant contractors if needed.

9.         All Contractors and managing agents going to apartments must be escorted to the apartments unless other wise instructed by the tenant/resident.

10.     Deal with any problems with the lifts.

11.     Deal with requests to have access to CCTV footage.

 

Weekly duties:

1.         Carry out a fire alarm test every Friday at 11am.

Course contents
  • Customer Service: Be able to apply a range of customer service skills in order to provide a professional, accurate, timely, ethical and non-judgemental front line service which meets the needs of a diverse range of customers and stakeholders.
  • Respond to vulnerability: Uses appropriate levels of skill and judgment to understand the needs of vulnerable individuals and groups (including those with complex needs) and respond accordingly.
  • Communication: Demonstrate effective and appropriate communication skills to enable timely identification and resolution of issues. Be able to signpost customers who need additional support to other colleagues, partner agencies.
  • Administration: Be able to apply a range of administrative skills in order to support a range of housing and property related services.
  • Information collection and sharing: Understand and be able to use a variety of methods to collect and present information such as resident, neighbourhood and property data in an effective manner. Information and data must be collected, recorded and presented accurately.
  • Team work: Work with internal colleagues and external partners to achieve individual, team and business targets. Work with colleagues to identify solutions to problems, appreciate the importance of team working and where they fit within the team.
  • Time management: Organise and plan work in a flexible manner to ensure tasks are prioritised and completed within agreed timescales.
  • Tools and equipment: Effective use of IT equipment and software, including housing and property management software. The appropriate use of housing and property related work equipment.
  • Decision making: Effective decision making in order to ensure work tasks are completed in line with instruction and on time.

Your training plan

As an apprentice, you will be working towards your Level 2 Housing and Property Management qualification. Total Training Provision will be your training provider. This is a work-based apprenticeship, meaning you will earn while you learn, gaining hands-on experience in a real business environment.

How You Will Learn – Level 2 Housing and Property Management Apprenticeship

You will work within our Building management team, applying what you learn directly to your everyday responsibilities. This practical approach ensures you develop core skills in customer service, health and safety, and the principles of housing and tenancy management.


Dedicated Skills Coach
Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll receive tailored support from a dedicated Skills Coach provided by Total Training Provision. They will help guide your learning and progression by offering:

One-to-One Sessions – Regular online meetings to support your development
Practical Guidance – Help with applying knowledge such as responding to customer enquiries, maintaining accurate records, and understanding housing law basics

Blended Learning Approach
This apprenticeship combines on-the-job learning with structured online training, including:

Online modules to build your housing knowledge
Virtual workshops focused on key areas like customer service, repairs reporting, and property standards
Work-based tasks and mini-projects to reinforce learning

Off-The-Job Training
20% of your working hours will be dedicated to off-the-job training. This may include:

Job shadowing colleagues
Attending online training sessions
Completing coursework and reflective learning activities

End-Point Assessment (EPA)
At the end of the apprenticeship, you’ll complete an End-Point Assessment to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and behaviours you've developed. Once passed, you'll achieve a nationally recognised Level 2 qualification in Housing and Property Management, giving you a strong foundation for future career development.
