Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Tooling Engineer, you will work within the Tool Room diagnosing tooling faults on the metal moulds used within our injection moulding machines and carrying out routine and reactive maintenance and repair of tooling and injection moulds.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Your duties will include:
- Conduct routine tooling maintenance as required to ensure maximum up time of injection moulds.
- To undertake troubleshooting and carry out repairs on injection moulds.
- To have the ability to diagnose tooling faults and identify appropriate methods of repair.
- Use of machine tools as appropriate.
- To make tools which are fit for purpose for the engineering team as well as performing tool maintenance activities.
- Hands on mould tool-making, jigs and fixture and conventional machining techniques such as lathe work, milling work and spark erosion.

Your training plan
Year 1 of the Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard, the learner will attend four days a week within IPS Rochester workshop completing practical skills (Performing Engineering Operations) and one day a week studying the Technical Certificate. In Year 2, the Apprentice moves to day-release and will attend IPS one day a week to continue the Technical Certificate. Starting in Year 2 and continuing until completion in Year 4. The Apprentice will continue to receive regular training contact with IPS all throughout the programme.
