Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the installation, servicing, and repair of pumps, motors, and associated equipment
- Learn and follow routine maintenance procedures
- Support breakdown diagnostics and fault finding
- Use a range of tools and equipment safely and correctly
- Help maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
- Comply with health and safety procedures at all times
- Maintain a clean and organised work environment
- Travel to customer sites with engineers as needed (full PPE and transport provided)

Your training plan
You will work towards a Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician apprenticeship standard. Training will be delivered through Rochdale Training with regular on-the-job support from qualified engineers at P&F Pumps.

Desirable qualifications
GCSE in:
Maths and English (grade Grade 4/C or above)Let the company know about other relevant qualifications and industry experience you have. They can adjust the apprenticeship to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements
This is a hands-on, physically active role that often involves working in noisy, sometimes dirty, and industrial environments. You’ll regularly be on your feet, using tools, lifting equipment, and occasionally working in confined spaces or outdoors in all weather conditions. You’ll need to be prepared to travel with the team to customer sites, which may involve early starts, occasional long days, and working in unfamiliar locations. Safety is absolutely critical in this job — you must always follow procedures and wear the correct PPE. You won’t be stuck behind a desk — this is a practical role where you’ll get your hands dirty and learn real-world engineering skills.
