Looking to start a career in engineering? Join us as an engineering operative apprentice, gaining hands-on experience with both our office and workshop teams. You'll develop key skills across the business and be supported in finding the path that suits you best from fabrication to machining etc.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Day-to-day role responsibilities will include:

Workshop:

  • Shadowing and working alongside pipe fabricators to understand how our processes work
  • Working alongside someone to understand the different methods or cutting, drilling, and machining methods we use
  • Using allocated time to work through college assignments
  • Working with goods in to manoeuvre raw materials around workshop
  • Learn the cutting methods we use
  • Helping with painting finished products
  • Helping with goods out to load deliveries

Office:

Working alongside Engineers to develop and gain understanding of drawings

  • This is a 12-18-month duration apprenticeship with college attendance required once per week at Colchester Institute's Braintree Campus, transport from Colchester campus provided

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

maths and English (grade A*-D/9-3)
