What you'll do at work
Role Summary:
We are seeking an Apprentice to join and strengthen our Site and Systems Team. In this role, you will support the delivery of high-tech projects, primarily involving the installation of systems on trains located at depots across the UK, as well as contributing to ongoing work at our Derby-based production facility.
This position involves regular travel to customer sites nationwide, with time also spent at our Derby office supporting system development and testing.
You will work with a wide range of advanced technologies, including line scanning and machine vision cameras, precision lighting, laser measurement systems, thermal sensors, embedded Linux platforms, IP networking, and GPS/4G/5G connectivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the installation and commissioning of cutting-edge monitoring systems
- Assist the Lead Site Engineer with planning work, including risk assessments and method statements
- Perform on-site tasks safely and professionally
- Collaborate effectively with team members to diagnose issues and develop practical solutions
- Create and maintain technical documentation during system build and testing phases
- Contribute to system assembly, configuration, and testing at our Derby production facility
- Develop the ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints
- Track project progress and produce detailed site reports, ensuring thorough documentation
- Assist in procurement by specifying technical requirements for components and related equipment

GCSE in:
5+ GCSEs (including English, Maths, and Science) (grade C/4 or above)Other in:

Other requirements
This is a hands-on role with varied responsibilities, working hours, and locations depending on the specific project requirements. While the role is primarily site-based, there will be a need to travel to our head office in Bristol several times per year. Travel and accommodation for these visits will be arranged and covered by the company.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, the individual will have the opportunity to apply to become a valued member of the team, with opportunities to further develop their skills and experience on the path to becoming a Senior Engineer. As the team grows, they may also have the chance to mentor future apprentices and share their knowledge and expertise.
