Summary
We are recruiting at a residential care home for adults with learning disabilities in Nottingham. It is home to 13 residents and located close to the city centre. Our residents require support to remain as independent as possible, whether this be with personal care, meal preparation, household duties, medical appointments or social activities.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Duties would include:
- Assisting and supporting our residents to make informed choices in all aspects of their lives.
- Working as part of a team, contributing positively to meetings and handovers etc.
- Being flexible within working rota's, working shifts including weekends and bank holidays.
- Working in partnership with health professionals.
- Supporting and facilitating new and current activities of our residents choice, including social or educational opportunities.
- Ensuring residents rights are upheld at all times.
- Promoting and maintaining a safe environment for all residents, staff and visitors.
- Fully adhering to all company policies and procedures at all times and completing necessary training.

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Support individuals they are working with according to their personal care/support plan
- Ask for help from an appropriate person when not confident or skilled in any aspect of their role
- Provide individuals with information to enable them to have a choice about the way they are supported
- Encourage individuals to participate in the way their care and support is delivered
- Ensure the individual knows what they are agreeing to regarding the way in which they are supported
- Contribute to the on-going development of care/support plans for the individual they support
- Support individuals with cognitive, physical or sensory impairments
- Ensure dignity is at the centre of all work with the individuals they support, their families, carers and advocates
- Demonstrate all work is person centred, accommodating the individual’s needs, wishes and preferences
- Demonstrate empathy (understanding and compassion) for individuals they support
- Demonstrate courage in supporting people in ways that may challenge their personal/cultural beliefs
- Speak clearly and exhibit positive non-verbal communication to individuals, families, carers and advocates
- Use the preferred methods of communication of the individual they support according to their language, culture, sensory needs and their wishes

Your training plan
Training will include:
- The 15 Standards as set out in the Care Certificate.
- A Level 2 Diploma in Care.
- Ongoing assessment by the employer and provider, for example meeting with the apprentice, employer and learning provider, observations of workplace and gathering evidence.
- Completion of the self-assessment exercise.
- Training will take place at Linwood House which is home to 13 adults with learning disabilities, situated opposite the Forest Recreation Ground near Nottingham City Centre.
- Functional skills in English and Maths (if required)

GCSE or equivalent in:

About this company
A residential care home for adults with learning disabilities.
After this apprenticeship
The qualification is aimed at adult care workers, support workers and key workers in a range of adult care or integrated care settings; and healthcare support workers and healthcare assistants in a range of healthcare settings. The qualification can be used both within and outside of the adult care worker apprenticeship standard.
While employed as a care worker you can develop your skills by training in specific areas, like autism awareness, communication skills or supporting people with dementia.
With experience, you can become a lead care worker. You can also move into more senior jobs, like managing people or services, if you study for further qualifications. For example, a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care, or a degree in social work or nursing.
