Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Accountant to join Steven Burton and Co. The successful candidate will be part of a small, expert team, meaning voices and opinions are heard and employees can have a direct impact with how the business moves forward. You will complete your AAT whilst gaining experience in the workplace.

Wage

£15,000 a year

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Completion of daily bookkeeping on Xero and Quickbooks Online for a wide variety of clients from different industries
  • Assist with preparation of VAT returns
  • Assist with completion of monthly CIS returns
  • Assist with preparation of company accounts and corporation tax returns
  • Support and assist the team with the completion of personal tax returns
  • Assist our marketing team with social media content
  • You will work with a varied portfolio of clients including individuals, sole trade, partnership and Limited companies. Most of our clients are small to medium sized businesses which means you will speak directly to the amazing entrepreneurs we help on a very regular basis. This gives you the chance to make a genuine difference to their families and their businesses.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Your training plan

Working towards a Level 2 Accounts or Finance Assistant apprenticeship standard. You will be keen to gain more knowledge and will be surrounded by a team who will support you at every step. All your studying expenses will be paid for, and we work closely with First Intuition who have sites across Essex in Colchester and Chelmsford. This will give you the best training possible.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

Maths and English (grade 4-9 or C-A*)

Let the company know about other relevant qualifications and industry experience you have. They can adjust the apprenticeship to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

The successful candidate will be required to travel to our office plus attend college in either Colchester or Chelmsford. Please ensure this is considered before applying for the role.
