Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
During the apprenticeship, you will become proficient in reading and interpreting CAD drawings, planning your work with the right tools, equipment and resources to complete the task. You will develop your problem-solving and fault diagnosis skills alongside following the high quality, health and safety standards in place.
Following the completion of the L3 Engineering Fitter Apprenticeship the successful candidate will provide the necessary technical expertise and support in relation to assembly of control system activities, whilst meeting agreed production quantity and quality targets in a safe manner.
Initially the candidate will prepare and assemble components ie:
· Interpretation of diagrams
· measuring, labelling, marking out panels,
· drilling and fitting plates to wire control panels in our workshop
They will possess a positive attitude towards self development both practically and academically, ability to work within a small supportive team, be conscientious, with good timekeeping skills and have a desire to achieve high standards of customer satisfaction.
As the role progresses the candidate will become involved in testing, use of power tools and have the opportunity to see the job through by assisting on customer sites around the UK, with installation and commissioning.
Candidates would be trained to read and interpret engineering data, worksheets and drawings in addition to working to documentation such as method statements, HS&E requirements to ensure safe systems of work.
Throughout your role, you will have interaction with all levels of staff from management, engineering, finance and admin to shop floor, allowing you to build your confidence and understanding in how a business operates.

- Planning component or assembly task – materials, tools and equipment.
- Preparing work area for component or assembly task; sourcing required resources, tools and equipment.
- Carry out relevant planning and preparation activities before commencing work activity and know how to source required resources and interpret detailed drawings, specifications and job instructions.
- Checking tools during and after task completion; identifying and reporting defects.
- Measuring and testing, checking or inspecting component or assembly for example; use of micrometers, verniers, multimeters, voltmeter.
- Problem solving; analysing the issue and fixing the issue where appropriate.
- Applying improvement techniques; recommending or implementing solutions where appropriate.
- Communicating with colleagues or customers (internal or external).
- Completing component or assembly documentation for example job instructions, drawings, quality control documentation.
- Reporting work outcomes or issues.
- Restoring the work area on completion of the activity; returning any resources and consumables to the appropriate location and house-keeping.
- Disposing of waste in accordance with waste streams; re-cycling, re-using where appropriate.
- Operating within limits of responsibility.
- Operating in line with quality, health and safety and environmental policy and procedures; identifying risks and hazards and identifying control measures where applicable.

Training will be delivered one day per week, term time, and is based at The Ruddington site and facilities are in creation to enrich the student experience, developing them with the necessary skills using industry recognised equipment to ensure the apprentice receives training closely matched to the employer’s and Industry.

Other requirements
Candidate must be able to travel to the workplace and college according to working hours. Please put in any special work request e.g. heavy lifting, working outside, long hours The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £7.55 per hour. This applies to 16-18year old apprentices and those aged over 18 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training. * Please note that anyone under the age of 18 will only work a maximum of 40 hours per week. Any role which exceeds these hours on advert will be amended accordingly to fall in line with the legislation * Please note that if the successful applicant is found prior to the closing date the vacancy maybe withdrawn early

After this apprenticeship
Initially working as an apprentice learning the skills in our workshop and in College. Following successful completion of the apprenticeship there could be the opportunity to gain further qualifications, in a supportive environment. The further qualifications are dependent upon the route both the candidate and the business see their career going.
