Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Assisting with data entry and maintaining accurate financial records
  • Processing invoices, receipts, and payments
  • Supporting bank reconciliations and ledger maintenance
  • Helping to prepare financial reports
  • Filing and organising financial documents
  • Assisting with payroll and expense claims
  • The role is based at our stroud site along the canal
  • You will be working alongside a team 5 who would supporting your development within the finance team

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Your training plan

Accounts or Finance Assistant Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard:

  • As the successful apprentice, you will undertake an Apprenticeship Standard in Finance
  • Includes assessments in Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours
  • Functional Skills in maths and English (where applicable) and completion of your End Point Assessment
  • During your time on the apprenticeship programme, you will also be expected to complete and document 20% off-the-job training
  • Throughout the course, the apprentice will be working on their portfolio and new learning in the workplace
  • You will attend College one day a week

     

. You will be assigned a supervisor/mentor within the workplace, who will support you to develop your workplace skills, knowledge and behaviours throughout the duration of your apprenticeship programme.

In addition to the knowledge, skills and behaviours set out in the apprenticeship standard, the apprentice will complete the Level 2 AAT
Diploma in Accounting.

This covers the following mandatory units:

Introduction to Bookkeeping
Principles of Bookkeeping Controls
Principles of Costing
The Business Environment (Synoptic)

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

Maths & English (grade 4-9)

This is an office-based role on a bus route with a short walk to site. There is free onsite parking.

After this apprenticeship

  • To grow and development within the company with a stay with the finance team in a number of future roles
  • This role will last whilst you are training with the scope for the role to be made permanent after the apprenticeship has been completed
