Summary
The Community Activator Coach apprentice will have a love of sports and fitness and be physically active themselves. They will play a vital role in improving public health by supporting, enhancing and delivering the day-to-day operations and services of a leisure / fitness facility.

If so, our Community Activator Coach apprenticeship opportunity may be perfect for you!
The Community Activator Apprentice with Swimming specialism has an important role to play in improving the health and wellbeing of children, families and communities by supporting the delivery of fun, inclusive and engaging sessions using our pop-up swimming pools. Working alongside our pool co-ordinators and swim teachers, this apprenticeship will give you an introduction into the world of swim teaching. Along the apprenticeship journey, you will learn how to plan, deliver and review sessions. We will also fund your lifeguarding and swim teacher qualifications. You will get a diverse opportunity to develop your wider coaching skills during your work on our Active Holiday camps during school holidays.
Key aspects of the role include:
- Working directly with pupils across key stages 1 and 2
- Support the delivery of swimming across National Curriculum PE lessons
- Support extra-curricular activities
- Undertaking routine maintenance of equipment, water testing and maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the pool environment
- Delivery of a range of interventions to support targeted pupil learning
- Run/organise sports competitions/events
- Use of technology to engage pupils with physical activity and sports especially swimming
- Supporting holiday camp programmes and other extracurricular activities (where necessary)
- Support other projects and activities relating to participation in sport and physical activity

You will be allocated a site base, and the programme will operate on a site rotation basis throughout the Sandwell area. The ability to travel between sites is essential.

Course contents
- Planning and adapting sessions and activities that respond to customer feedback and encourage customers to develop a lifelong activity habit.
- Coaching or leading pre-planned sport or physical activity sessions that are attractive to the target audience(s) and develop motivational relationships with customers.
- Promoting a physical activity offer, (including but not exclusively) organised play and sport in the community which supports individuals on their behaviour change journey.
- Working collaboratively with sports clubs and other community assets – including volunteers, public services, youth workers, the police and community champions.
- Supporting customers to co-produce rewarding volunteering opportunities.
- Supporting families to participate together in sport and physical activity.
- Working effectively with customer insight to overcome individual, community and societal barriers to participation in physical activity and sport.
- Contributing to the employer’s design of activities and services and practising the employer’s organisation’s values, policies and procedures.
- Contributing to teams that deliver community events and festivals.
- Supporting organisations to evaluate, develop and promote sessions and other opportunities such as outdoor group exercise and informal social play.
- Maintaining personal safety and wellbeing, as well as that of customers.
- Managing disruptive behaviours from individuals within the group setting.
- Encouraging customers to be regularly active – both formally and informally – within sports clubs or leisure facilities including open-space.
- Effectively using social media and technology, appropriately, to deliver targeted messages to identified customer groups for example children, teenagers, adults and older adults.
- Effectively monitor and evaluate activities, sessions and projects using technology platforms to maintain accurate records and produce timely reports.

The successful applicant will receive: • Allocated workplace mentor • Access to employer training • Access to apprenticeship training delivered by Aspire Training Solutions • Allocated learning hours within the working week 20% off the job learning Successfully complete an on-site swim test without any floatation aids; which includes • treading water for 30 seconds at the deepest part of a pool • swimming 50 metres in 1 minute 12 seconds using any stroke • continuous 200-meter swim, 100 metres any front stroke, 100 metres back stroke, without stopping • single attempt to recover a mannequin from the bottom of a pool, up to 5 metres depth • able to climb out of the deepest part of a pool unaided • functional sight and hearing test We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and anyone applying to work across our school settings is expected to share this commitment.
