£12,170.60 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

As an Apprentice Teaching Assistant you will be based in the class which supports the needs of our youngest pupils in the school (typically Reception to Year 1). During your week you will:

Develop effective relationships with pupils and staff
Supervise and support the teaching activities of individuals or groups of young children
Prepare and maintain equipment and teaching resources for lessons and activities
Assist the teacher in the development, delivery and implementation of Personal Learning Goals linked to outcomes on EHCPs
Monitor and record individual pupils’ progress, achievements, and development needs
Support the social and emotional development of pupils
Support the personal care needs of pupils

Your training plan

Full training is provided in the workplace with one day a week set aside for assessor-supported self-study.

Other requirements

You MUST be prepared to commit to your work and training for the duration of the apprenticeship. You will be required to attend an interview and assessment at Weymouth College prior to your application being passed on. About this company

Westfield is a highly regarded age 4-19, 232 pupil Dorset special school. All pupils have moderate/complex learning difficulties and more than half have a diagnosis of ASD. Ofsted judged us as outstanding in February 2023. Westfield is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Westfield is a member of the Teaching Alliance of Dorset Special Schools (TADSS). The intention of our alliance is to promote excellent practice across and beyond the Dorset special schools. TADSS is a partner of the South Central Teaching School Hub. Our role in the SCTSH is to support the development and implementation of the Early Career Framework (ECF), National Professional Qualifications (NPQ) and CPD. TADSS leads outreach support in Dorset mainstream schools through a partnership with Dorset Council. For three years TADSS led the development of Therapeutic Thinking across Dorset, training over 100 school settings. TADSS continues to lead Therapeutic Thinking in Dorset special schools.
