Summary
The Red7Marine apprentice fabricator is a developing apprentice position working in support of in-house fabrication works. Continually developing their welding and fabrication capabilities on live jobs and in the attainment of knowledge of fabrication, by learning from the experienced fabrication team within Red7Marine and college attendance.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Day to day role responsibilities will include:
- Fabrication and modification to items and temporary works solutions in the workshop as instructed by line manager
- Assisting Welder / Fabricator with ensuring all materials received for Red7Marine fabrication scopes are correctly marked up, allocated to a job and/or drawing number and issued to fabrication scopes
- Continuous professional development of self with the full support of the fabrication team
- Ensuring all workshop activities carried out (regardless of in workshop or on site) are always carried out safely
- Provide day to day support to the Fabrication Supervisor, Yard Supervisor and Fabrication team
- Perform additional/further duties that are within your capabilities to best meet the needs of the business
- The apprenticeship fabricator is very much a hands-on role, that involves working within a close-knit team

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Work safely at all times, comply with health & safety legislation, regulations and organisational requirements.
- Comply with environmental legislation, regulations and organisational requirements.
- Obtain, check and use the appropriate documentation (such as job instructions, drawings, quality control documentation).
- Carry out relevant planning and preparation activities before commencing work activity.
- Undertake the work activity using the correct processes, procedures and equipment.
- Carry out the required checks (such as quality, compliance or testing) using the correct procedures, processes and/or equipment.
- Deal promptly and effectively with problems within the limits of their responsibility using approved diagnostic methods and techniques and report those which cannot be resolved to the appropriate personnel.
- Complete any required documentation using the defined recording systems at the appropriate stages of the work activity.
- Restore the work area on completion of the activity and where applicable return any resources and consumables to the appropriate location.
- Identify and follow correct Metal work instructions, specifications, drawing etc.
- Mark out using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Cut and form Metal for the production or maintenance of fabricated products.
- Produce and assemble Metal products to required specification and quality requirements.
- Identify and follow correct joining instructions, specifications, drawing etc.
- Carry out the relevant preparation before starting the joining fabrication activity.
- Set up, check, adjust and use joining and related equipment.
- Weld joints in accordance with approved welding procedures and quality requirements.

Your training plan
- The apprentice will be working towards the Level 3 Metal Fabricator Apprenticeship Standard
- This apprenticeship will also include Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and Level 3 Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
- College attendance will be at the Colchester Institute - Colchester Campus one day per week during term time

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:

Other requirements
There will be times where it will be required to accompany one or more of the team to work on sites of marine construction or on the deck of our jack up barges. This is a critical part of this roles development into our business, and transport will be provided. The vast majority of work during the apprenticeship shall be carried out within our Ipswich fabrication workshop facility though. Time keeping and 100% attendance at college is crucial. Ideally, the candidate will live locally to Red7Marine and/or have means to arrive at our workplace for 07.00 every morning (Monday to Friday) when not at college.

After this apprenticeship
If successful on the apprenticeship there is the potential to move into a full time role as a junior fabricator at Red7Marine. There will also be opportunity to learn and be certified in welding processes with a view to becoming a welder/fabricator.
